Key Takeaways
- Acne scars and surface texture are different concerns at different depths in the skin, so each responds to a different type of treatment.
- Sofwave™ Acne-Scar Treatment uses FDA-cleared ultrasound technology to stimulate collagen beneath the surface without needles or incisions.
- Hydrafacial™ focuses on congestion, enlarged pores, and uneven skin tone at the surface.
- PRP Facial Rejuvenation uses your own platelets to support gradual improvement in overall skin quality.
- Results develop over weeks to months, and we tailor every plan to your skin type, scar pattern, and medical history.
Acne can be more than a temporary skin blemish. Many of our clients worry about changes that persist after breakouts. These can include marks that catch the light because of uneven texture. It can also include enlarged pores and flat, depressed areas of skin that persist even after the breakout has completely cleared. This can be due to inflammation from the acne breakout or the healing process. These changes can feel stubborn because they occur at different levels and layers of the skin, making them hard to address with a single treatment.
At our Med Spa in Brooklyn, we treat acne scarring and texture as a clinical concern first and a cosmetic one second. Licensed registered nurses deliver every treatment under the direct supervision of our medical director. Every recommendation begins with a careful assessment of your skin, your health history and the results you hope to see. Our goal is to match each concern with the best-suited option.

Acne Scars vs. Texture Concerns
Prematurely extracting a breakout can disrupt collagen formation. As a result, atrophic scars, more commonly known as acne scars, can form. These scars form when not enough new collagen fills the gap. Acne scars can also occur when collagen is destroyed during healing and not enough new collagen forms to replace it.
Atrophic scars come in various shapes and forms. Some appear narrow and deep, like a small puncture, and are known as ice pick scars. Others are wider with sharp, well-defined edges and are called boxcar scars. Scars can also form as broad, shallow depressions that give the skin a rolling or wave-like appearance, which is why they are referred to as rolling scars.
Texture concerns are often confused with acne scarring. Post-acne discoloration, broken and congested pores, uneven texture and dullness are all surface-level concerns. Post-inflammatory pigmentation is often red, pink or brown in color. These often fade on their own but can take months.
It makes a difference. A treatment that improves the surface refines depressed scars. A treatment to remove congested pores may not help with depressed scars. In our experience, patients often have both, so we consider each component of the face when recommending a treatment plan.
Treatment Options for Scarring and Uneven Texture
Sofwave™ Acne-Scar Treatment is our primary option for depressed scarring. Sofwave™ uses proprietary Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB™) technology to deliver precisely controlled ultrasound energy into the mid-dermis. This is the layer where the body naturally produces collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. The targeted thermal stimulation activates the body’s natural repair response while keeping the skin's surface intact. Sofwave™ is FDA-cleared to improve the appearance of acne scars, and integrated cooling helps keep the experience comfortable. Because there are no needles or incisions, most clients return to their usual activities right away. Results build gradually, with the most noticeable changes typically appearing over 8 to 12 weeks as new collagen forms. Very deep, narrow scars may soften without disappearing entirely, and we discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.
Hydrafacial™ addresses the surface side of the equation. Using patented Vortex-Fusion® technology, each treatment combines cleansing, exfoliation, painless extractions, hydration and antioxidant protection in one session. For clients with oily or acne-prone skin, congested pores, roughness or uneven tone, this can help the skin look clearer and smoother with no downtime. Our Hydrafacial™ Deluxe Customized Skin Correction is tailored to specific concerns, including congestion and texture. Hydrafacial™ does not rebuild collagen beneath a depressed scar. However, it can improve how light reflects off the skin and often complements collagen-focused treatments.
LED Light Therapy is a 20-minute add-on that many clients pair with a Hydrafacial™ session. It is gentle, comfortable, and requires no recovery time. Texture concerns aren't limited to the face, and our Neck & Décolleté Signature, Deluxe, and Platinum Treatments bring the same cleansing, exfoliation, and hydration to the neck and chest.
PRP Facial Rejuvenation takes a regenerative approach. We draw a small blood sample and centrifuge it to concentrate platelets and growth factors. We then administer this platelet-rich plasma to the treatment area. Because PRP comes from your own blood, the risk of an allergic reaction is extremely low. PRP may support collagen production and improve overall skin quality, making texture irregularities less noticeable over time. When appropriate, we apply a medical-grade numbing cream beforehand, and mild redness, swelling, or tenderness may last for several days. Improvements typically develop over several weeks to months, and we may recommend a series of treatments. For clients concerned about more than one area, our PRP Full Face + One Additional Area option extends treatment beyond the face, and PRP Neck or Décolleté Rejuvenation is also available. As with every service we offer, individual results vary and cannot be guaranteed.
In our med spa, we rarely use these options in isolation. Scarring and texture concerns often occur side by side, so we usually layer treatments that work at different depths. Sofwave™ may address collagen loss beneath depressed scars, and PRP may support overall skin quality. Hydrafacial™ with LED Light Therapy may help keep pores clear and the surface refined while deeper changes develop. When we design a plan, we weigh several factors:
- The type, depth and location of your scars
- Your skin tone and sensitivity
- Your medical history and current medications
- How much downtime fits your schedule
- Whether surface texture, deeper scarring or both matter most to you
Choosing a med spa with medical oversight means your plan can change throughout treatment based on how your skin responds, instead of sticking to a predetermined plan.
| Treatment | Primary Focus | What to Expect |
| Sofwave™ Acne-Scar Treatment | Depressed scars caused by collagen loss | No needles, little downtime, gradual change over 8 to 12 weeks |
| Hydrafacial™ Deluxe Customized Skin Correction | Congested pores, roughness and uneven tone | Immediate refreshed look, no downtime, about 45 minutes |
| LED Light Therapy | A gentle add-on to Hydrafacial™ | 20 minutes with no recovery time |
| PRP Facial Rejuvenation | Overall skin quality and texture | Mild redness or swelling for a few days, gradual improvement over weeks to months |
| Combined plan | Mixed scarring and surface texture | Treatments layered by depth and adjusted to how your skin responds |
Acne scars and uneven skin texture are common concerns, and you don't have to deal with them alone. With the right combination of care and treatment, many clients have seen a significant, natural improvement in how their skin looks and feels. The key is finding the right balance of care and treatment.
